gandmtools
is a small friendly company specialising in the sale and purchase of machine tools, hand tools and all types
of workshop equipment.
Since the formation of the company in 1987 the partners, Tim
Muddle and Anthony "Digger" Gardner,
have endeavoured to supply high quality equipment at a fair price,
starting with hand tools and expanding to machine tools for engineering and
woodworking.
Our continuing policy is to offer a large range of good quality
used machine tools for both professional and model engineers and woodworkers.
Add to that the huge range of machine tooling, hand tools and workshop equipment
and you will see that we can offer a one stop service for the discerning
tradesman and amateur.
Our backgrounds are similar, both being local and having an interest
in tools and trades. Tims' family have traded at our present
address since 1897 as corn merchants and provender millers. The original
mill (seen right
and below), a water mill, was destroyed by fire in the early
1970's and was replaced by a large clear span industrial building designed
and built in
1975.
The partnership was formed when Tims' father decided to
cease trading as corn merchants.
This allowed us to utilise this excellent site.
Starting with 80 square meters, which is now the workshop block,
we expanded into one half of the main warehouse and later into the whole
accommodation
as seen below. This amounts to over 1000 square meters with overhead
gantry crane, excellent lighting and heating to keep the machines rust free
and
the customers cosy.
As stock and turnover has increased, so also has our personnel.
Currently there are 3 of us; Digger, Tim, and Malcolm, as well
as occasional part time help.
All members of staff are very knowledgeable about the business
and are passionate about one or other aspect of it.
The partners, Tim and Digger, are both avid collectors of old
tools. Tim is also interested in vintage car racing and hill climbing and
hopes one day to own a Frazer Nash. Digger is currently restoring his 18th
century house and also collects clocks and books.
Malcolm started on a temporary basis, having worked formerly
as a cabinet maker in the antique trade. One of his jobs is the construction
of custom crates and packing of machines for export. We have
sent machines to 5 continents and are proud to say that all have arrived
safely.
We try to maintain a relaxed atmosphere at our showrooms, offering
customers the chance to wander amongst the stock without being pestered
by salesmen. We are always on hand to answer questions and help
with queries.
